I'm kind of that guy.
I played three characters for several levels each with a given group. I had not only a broad but portable variety of multi-use everyday items. I was proud of that: the others barely seemed to pack their own armor. Kunai, chalk, strong liquor, string, small wooden balls, flasks, a prybar... I was the 'store.' I made sure to make myself into a walking toolkit; unless thoroughly searched and possibly stripped to my skivvies one character could at least count on having some ersatz rope, a wire ring saw, possibly a potion, some powder, and a small tube of alchemical solution that could be used to create a crystalline short sword. My droid character in a homebrew Star Wars rule conversion had so many useful upgrades and onboard items I couldn't even recite them.
Although everyone knew my habit, in years nobody actively asked me what I had in my inventory.
